A Brief History of Dave Sinclair

Dave Sinclair was born in 1928, growing up during the challenges of the Great Depression. Inspired by his father, a 30 year member of the St. Louis City Police Department, Dave learned the value of hard work from an early age. Facing financial pressures due to a growing family and mounting medical bills, he began selling cars, part time, a decision that would shape his future.

In the 1950s, Dave transitioned to full-time work at Vince Pontiac, moving to Costello – Kunze Ford and quickly moving through the ranks to become General Manager. His exceptional leadership, sales ability and dedication to customer satisfaction attracted the attention of FORD MOTOR COMPANYand led to a pivotal moment in 1966 when Ford appointed him a dealer on south KingsHighway in St. Louis.

In the 1970s, the dealership relocated to its current location on South Lindbergh , marking the beginning of an incredible journey.

In the 1980s, Dave Sinclair Ford soared to new heights, becoming the number one Ford dealer in the United States.

Three years in a row. Dave Sinclair was unwavering in commitment to family, faith, and customer satisfaction. He is best known for his iconic TV & radio commercials. Including “”if it’s not right I’ll make it right “” and “”Thank you, and here’s my address.”

Today, his legacy temsins strong through the second and third generations of the Sinclair, Willett, Detwiler, and Godfrey families, with several of his grandchildren proudly running the dealerships.
Their commitment to excellence ensures that Dave’s vision continues to resonate with each customer.
